Who will Alabama women’s basketball face in 1st round of NCAA Tournament?
Alabama women’s basketball earned a No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament when the bracket was unveiled on Sunday. The Crimson Tide will face Green Bay in the first round.
Kristy Curry’s group will play its first round game in College Park, Maryland. The winner will face either Maryland or Norfolk State in the second round.
The announcement means Alabama has now made the NCAA Tournament three consecutive times and four out of the last five seasons. UA enters the Big Dance off a one-and-done showing the SEC Tournament.
The Crimson Tide lost that game to Florida, 63-61. It made for a two-game losing streak, after Alabama dropped its regular-season finale to Oklahoma.
Alabama enters the tournament at 28-3 on the season, 10-6 in SEC play. The Tide finished sixth in the SEC’s regular-season standings.
If the Crimson Tide makes it through the first two games, it will play its Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight matchups in Birmingham. However, 1998 was the last time UA advanced past the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Green Bay earned its spot in the tournament by winning the Horizon League. The Phoenix enters the matchup with Alabama at 29-5 overall, 19-1 in league play, and is on a 22-game winning streak.
The two teams will face off Friday. Tipoff time and television designations have not been announced.
