It appears the Aaron Rodgers-Davante Adams era in the Meadowlands will be very short-lived.
Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the duo will reportedly be leaving the New York Jets this offseason after a brief and disappointing 2024 tenure.
The former dynamic Green Bay Packers teammates played together for just 11 games after Adams was traded from the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 15.
Rodgers and Adams combined for just 854 yards and seven touchdowns on 67 receptions across that span, by far the bulk of production for New York but not enough to win more than five games all season (only three of those after the trade).
According to Rapoport, Adams desires to link up with a team on the West Coast in 2025, which could create some intriguing matches if his favorite quarterback is also following along.
The team that comes to mind that needs veteran presence on offense and is located near the Pacific Ocean is, ironically, the Raiders.
Those are the biggest vacancies Las Vegas needs to fill, but would Adams be comfortable returning there even with Rodgers in tow? And would the team even want Rodgers if it has its eyes fixed on drafting a rookie?
There's also the possibility the 41-year-old considers hanging up his cleats after what will be eventually considered a Hall of Fame career. Despite the disappointing ending, sometimes every player must know when to call it quits.
Adams is still technically under contract until after the 2026-27 season but Rapoport noted his $38.3M salary-cap hit this upcoming season is more than enough reason for the Jets to either cut him loose or attempt to find a trade partner.
Fans and pundits alike will be keeping a close eye on their situation in the coming weeks and months. NFL free agency begins on March 12 and the draft will take place April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wis.
