After winning the Pacific Division and making the playoffs in 2023-24, the Vancouver Canucks followed it with a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, going 38-30-14 with 90 points, falling short of a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
With a new head coach in Adam Foote and decisions needed to be made with the lineup, can the Canucks get back to the playoffs in 2025-26?
On Thursday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk are joined by Canucks’ Army writer and Nation Network Editor in Chief David Quadrelli to discuss what’s next for Vancouver and where the team goes moving forward.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Let’s talk about some potential additions. What must be brought in and what areas must be addressed if this is going to be a successful summer for the Canucks?
David Quadrelli: A successful summer in what way? Are we talking that they get back to being a playoff team? I don’t think there’s a path for them being in that conversation, even if they’re a fringe contender. That’s going to take an extraordinary amount of luck. Maybe they could be what the Capitals were last season with some luck, but I don’t really see a path for them to get there.
That being said … they’re going to need a second-line center. Some would argue they need a first-line center. If they’re not going to trade Elias Pettersson, which right now I don’t think they are, they’re going to need a second-line center, they’re going to need a top-flight winger, because let’s not forget, they’re likely going to lose Brock Boeser on July 1. They’ll likely lose Pius Suter, as well. If they lose both of those guys, they’ll not just need to replace both of them, but they’re going to need a top-line winger.
