Saturday will the second and last scrimmage for the Alabama Crimson Tide Fall Camp. The pivotal second scrimmage in past seasons was often called the REC scrimmage. Red Elephant Club members were allowed to attend. The important and zealous group of Alabama supporters sometimes were too zealous. In the last couple of seasons, observations and actual videos were shared from the 'closed' scrimmage.
Greg Byrne or Kalen DeBoer have changed the access and for good reason. In the offensive and defensive systems transition from Nick Saban to DeBoer, too much visibility and exposure would be a gift to Alabama opponents.
Scrimmage insights will still be shared, from a smaller group of guests that will not include reporters. Kalen DeBoer will do a post-scrimmage media review. The players will get a break on Sunday and Monday, before returning to the practice field on Tuesday.
Multiple starting positions are still being contested. It is unlikely that all first-unit questions will be answered on Saturday. Competition at right tackle and boundary cornerback may not end for weeks. Earlier this week Crimson Tide offensive line coach, Chris Kapilovic spoke about the battle between Wilkin Formby and Elijah Pritchett. "Both the guys are battling out there right now... it’s just going to continue to go throughout camp until somebody shows that they’re clearly better than the other."
