What Nate Oats thinks would be a ‘disappointment’ for Alabama in March Madness

Alabama men’s basketball isn’t content with just being part of the 2025 March Madness bracket. Crimson Tide coach Nate Oats made clear that expectations should far exceed that.

Alabama earned a No. 2 seed and will face No. 15 seed Robert Morris on Friday in Cleveland as part of the East region in the NCAA Tournament.

“We need to make a run,” Oats said Sunday night. “Getting to the tournament is not good enough. Anything short of a Final Four would be a disappointment in my opinion. That’s what the expectation is.”

Alabama reached the Final Four a season ago as a No. 4 seed, upsetting then-No. 1 seed UNC. Now the Crimson Tide would not have to face the No. 1 seed, which is Duke, until a regional final, a step away from a Final Four.

“I know we’re a 2 seed,” Oats said. “The Elite Eight is supposed to be where it ends. If we don’t play well, play a lot better than we did in the second half yesterday, we won’t even make it that far.”
