Stefon Diggs’ last 1000-yard season was with the Patriots’ biggest rival. He now has the chance to do it with the Patriots.
Julian Edelman was the Stefon Diggs of the New England Patriots. Back when the team was winning Super Bowls on a yearly basis, Edelman was one of the receivers Tom Brady would turn to at the darkest of times.
Stefon Diggs, meanwhile, still reminds fans of the Minnesota Miracle. The converted Hail Mary in the playoffs when he was with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017 will be remembered in NFL history for years to come. The star from that moment has now signed with the New England Patriots.
Of course, many fan bases are left wondering what could have been with Diggs. The Patriots, however, are now dreaming about what can happen. That said, what does Julian Edelman think?

Julian Edelman on Patriots signing Stefon Diggs
Julian Edelman’s evaluations have not been limited to the New England Patriots. However, speaking on his podcast “Games with Names,” the former receiver turned his attention to his former team and their move to get Diggs. The comments were made before the move and posted online after the fact on March 26.
“I like Stefon Diggs in New England that situation, because Stefan Diggs is still pissed off at the Bills. So there’s going to be hunger, and there’s going to be urgency, and there’s going to be a fire under his — in the meeting room when he’s in New England at practice,” he said.
He added: “So if you’re getting a motivated Stefon Diggs, that could be really beneficial to the young football players in that young football room that they call the receiver room in New England, they have a lot of young football players there.”
“It’d be really good for these younger guys to be able to see how a professional works daily, how a professional prepares daily, how a professional takes care of his body,” he finished.
Stefon Diggs’ last 1000-yard season came the last time he was in the AFC East as a member of the Buffalo Bills. Now, as a member of their biggest division rival, he will work to unseat Josh Allen from the throne at the top of the AFC East.
Julian Edelman calls out position group
Julian Edelman also took aim at one of the team’s position groups. No longer a member of the team, the former receiver doesn’t have the same insider viewpoint that he did. However, he still didn’t appear to like what he had seen from the team.
“They could use a little fire under their — in that receiver room,” he said.
The Patriots haven’t had a 1000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman pulled off the feat in 2019. In 2024, the team’s top receiver was their tight end. Put simply, the pressure is on the unit to get something going in 2025. Adding Diggs might be their best shot.
