The Pittsburgh Steelers will look to recover from their Week 12 upset loss to the Cleveland Browns when they face the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.
Many of the discussions following the Steelers' loss last Thursday have been about their Hail Mary throw on the final play of the game, where star receiver George Pickens was involved in a scuffle with Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II in the back of the end zone.
Although no sort of punishment has been issued for either Pickens or Newsome yet, the league is reportedly still investigating the incident.
On Wednesday, when he was asked about his perspective on the incident, quarterback Russell Wilson took his receiver's side.
“George is always trying to make a play, obviously," said Wilson. "Unfortunately, I believe he was getting pushed out... He was trying to get to the spot where I threw it to, and he got carried out of the end zone on that, unfortunately... He was trying to fight for the ball.”
While Wilson is obviously trying to stick by his receiver, this is not the first time Pickens has been involved in an extracurricular incident on the field. During the Steelers' matchup against the Dallas Cowboys earlier in the season, Pickens grabbed cornerback Jourdan Lewis' helmet and threw him to the ground. He was fined $10,230 for the incident.
Although none of Pickens' controversies have truly changed the outcomes of games, it's likely something that the Steelers will want to get in check in the coming weeks with the playoffs quickly approaching.
