What Christian Wilkins' placement on PUP list means for Raiders star

There has been uncertainty surrounding the foot of Las Vegas Raiders defensive lineman Christian Wilkins all offseason long.

Wilkins suffered a Jones fracture that ended his 2024 campaign early but managed to shed his boot late last season. Then, Wilkins was spotted both with and without the boot this offseason, which suggested he had suffered a setback.

There were even a few reports out there that Wilkins might need another surgery, which would keep him out for the entire 2025 season.

While we wait for more clarity, the Raiders announced on Friday that Wilkins will begin training camp on the active/physically unable to perform list.

What Christian Wilkins on PUP list means

There are two different PUP lists, the active/PUP and the reserve/PUP.

Thankfully, Wilkins has been placed on the active version, which means he can be activated at any time. Had he been placed on the reserve version, Wilkins would've been forced to miss the first four games of the season.

That said, if Wilkins remains on the active/PUP list after the 53-man roster deadline, he will then be forced to miss the first four contests of 2025.

Wilkins' placement on the active/PUP list is a good sign that he has a chance to be ready for Week 1.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Wilkins has been "making sound progress" in his recovery, so that's positive news.

There have been no further updates on Wilkins lately, but we'd expect that to change once the Raiders finish reporting to training camp on July 22.
