One notable aspect of the Las Vegas Raiders this season is their entry into the 2025 edition with arguably the best tight end in football. If they pair Brock Bowers with a competent quarterback, the result could be a remarkable year. Indeed, that’s precisely what is unfolding.
Bowers, who joined SportsCenter live from “Tight End U,” shed light on how things are progressing with the Raiders’ new starting signal-caller. “We’ve just been getting after it. I really like him. He has been a really smart dude,” said Bowers of Geno Smith. The rookie Pro Bowler went on to further sing Smith’s praises and expressed further optimism: “I am really excited to see what he brings to the table, and he obviously throws a great ball and I am excited to get to work with him more in training camp and throughout the year.”
Can Raiders TE Brock Bowers top last season’s individual efforts?
It’s incredible to recall the season that Bowers had—along with a Pro Bowl nod, the 2024 rookie was also an All-Pro. Considering the chaos at quarterback under former Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce, this achievement is truly remarkable.
Naturally, expectations are even higher now that Brock Bowers has someone reliable passing the ball. It’ll also tremendously benefit him to have a proven offensive coordinator in Chip Kelly.
Bowers also spoke about the rapport and chemistry that he’s building with Smith. Surely it’s a night and day difference from last season. “Even if you have known the guy for a long time, I think you still need to get those reps in. Get all those different routes and those different looks and everything. So he could kind of know what you are going to do. Just keep going with it and keep building off stuff,” Bowers noted. The timing and precision will be there; Raiders fans shouldn’t worry. If there’s one thing that Smith has proven, it’s that he’s patient and accurate.
As training camp arrives next month, it’ll be intriguing to see how the relationship between Bowers and Smith develops. While there’s tons of well-deserved hype for rookie running back Ashton Jeanty, it might be the tight end and quarterback pair who determine how this season plays out.
