‘We’re Ready for Them’: Washington Commanders Legend Chris Cooley Talks Big Rivalry with NFC East Powerhouses Ahead of 2025 Season

As the Washington Commanders head into the 2025 NFL season, the pressure is mounting for the team to finally make a legitimate playoff push. With key additions and a revamped roster, the Commanders are ready to prove they’re a force to be reckoned with. But in the NFC East, there's one team that stands above the rest: the Dallas Cowboys.

Former Commanders legend and two-time Pro Bowl tight end Chris Cooley recently weighed in on Washington's longstanding rivalry with the Cowboys, declaring, "We’ve been waiting for a team like this to come along and challenge Dallas. It’s time for the Commanders to make their mark, and there’s no better way to do that than by taking down the Cowboys."

Cooley, who spent his entire career in Washington, knows better than most what it takes to be a true contender in the NFC East. "The Cowboys have always been the measuring stick in our division, and for years, they’ve had our number. But I’m telling you, this is a different Commanders team. We’ve got the firepower, the talent, and the heart to knock them off their perch."

With quarterback Sam Hartman leading the offense and a defense that’s poised to shut down the competition, the Commanders are ready to battle their NFC East rivals. As Cooley suggests, the Cowboys should be on high alert as Washington seeks to reclaim the NFC East title and take a step closer to Super Bowl contention.

"Don’t sleep on the Commanders," Cooley added. "We’ve got the weapons, and we’ve got the drive. Dallas won’t know what hit them."

As the rivalry heats up, fans are eagerly awaiting the first showdown between these two NFC East powerhouses, with Cooley’s words echoing in their ears. Will the Commanders rise to the challenge and finally dethrone the Cowboys? Time will tell.
