Kirk Cousins, quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, does not seem too bothered by the Atlanta Falcons essentially removing his QB1 status and giving that to Michael Penix Jr. Cousins was asked about exactly this during the training minicamp on Tuesday. Cousins was replaced by Penix after he injured his shoulder during the tenth week of the previous football season.

Cousins was expected to be one of the best-performing players for the Atlanta Falcons after he signed with the team in the previous NFL season. However, his injury was completely unexpected and the team’s overall performance dipped as a result.

“We’re moving forward and it’s about how we as a team and as a quarterback room can be the best we can be in 2025.” Kirk Cousins said to reporters when asked about his performance for the team in the next football season.

“Obviously, you’d love to play. But I’m not gonna dwell on things that aren’t reality in terms of — that’s not the situation I’m in. It’s better spent to be focused on the situation that I’m in and controlling what you can control. I think that’s the right mindset to have.” Cousins explained when he was asked about his opinion on the Falcons preferring Michael Penix Jr. for this season.

With Kirk Cousins essentially being the backup quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, there have been reports going around that the QB might actually be traded out of the team. However, the financial consequences of the trade might affect the Falcons pretty negatively.

Kirk Cousins May Be Traded To Another Team Soon

Meanwhile, quarterback Kirk Cousins may have been replaced for good by the Atlanta Falcons. There have been rumors of the Atlanta Falcons moving Cousins out of their team for good and that the talented quarterback may soon play for another franchise in the upcoming football season.

In the previous football offseason, Cousins signed a four-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons and still has a lot more left in his agreement. However, he might not be too happy playing backup quarterback with Penix as starter. It might work out cheaper for the Falcons if they simply hold on to Cousins for now.

At the same time, if a viable trade does come into the picture, the Falcons will be more than happy to see Cousins go. According to NFL pundits, Cousins may land trades with the Browns, the Vikings or even the Steelers who recently signed Aaron Rodgers.
