Way-too-early A to Z Sports 2026 Mock Draft: Kansas City lands its best RB prospect since Jamaal Charles, replaces TE Travis Kelce

The 2025 NFL Draft is in the books, with the Kansas City Chiefs making seven selections.

You never know how an NFL season is going to shake out, but it's usually a safe bet that the Chiefs will continually be picking at the bottom of round one.

Way-too-early A to Z Sports 2026 Mock Draft: Kansas City lands its best RB prospect since Jamaal Charles, replaces TE Travis Kelce

Our draft team at A to Z Sports never rests, as College Football Managing Editor Travis May has already released his first 2026 mock draft.

Obviously it's super early, but this can at least give us an idea of who the top prospects will be next spring. Here's how Travis sees things potentially shaking out for the Chiefs' 2026 draft class.

Round 1, pick 29: Penn State RB Nicholas Singleton

"Nicholas Singleton entered college football as one of the most explosive athletes in the nation back in 2022, immediately putting up nearly 1,200 yards from scrimmage scoring 13 total touchdowns. He slumped a bit as a sophomore, trying to force too many big plays instead of taking what was given, but cleaned things up in a big way this past season. Singleton chose to return to Penn State in hopes to win a national title, but would definitely have been an early pick this year already. The Chiefs get the best running back prospect they've drafted since Jamaal Charles here." - Travis May

Running back is still a position of need moving forward for K.C. Starter Isaiah Pacheco is entering the final year of his rookie contract, and backups Kareem Hunt and Elijah Mitchell are signed to just one-year deals.

The Chiefs took Brashard Smith in the seventh round, but who knows how much playing time he'll get as a rookie. Even if he does emerge, he is the only RB K.C. currently has under contract beyond 2025 (once he signs).

Round 2, pick 61: USC S Kamari Ramsey

The Chiefs drafted a potential future stud in Jaden Hicks in 2024, but he may need some help come 2026. Like Pacheco, Bryan Cook is also entering he final year of his rookie deal. Backup veterans Mike Edwards and Deon Bush are only on one-year contracts.

Ramsey is a physical box safety who is a great tackler and excels in man coverage. With Hicks patrolling the deep end of the field, Ramsey would make for a perfect complement to him.

Round 3, pick 93: Vanderbilt TE Eli Stowers

Travis Kelce gave us a retirement scare a few months ago, and it seems likely that 2025 will be his last ride. Backup Noah Gray is a valuable Swiss army knife player, but needs to be paired with a TE with dynamic receiving skills.

Stowers could be that guy. He is an excellent athlete who has a background in high jump and runs a 4.55 40-yard dash. Stowers excels out of the slot, and is multi-dimensional as a former quarterback and running back.
