Washington Commanders: NFL Insider Suggests Team Targets 4-Time Pro Bowl Linebacker

The Washington Commanders have not been shy about making moves this offseason. They traded for wide receiver Deebo Samuel and left tackle Laremy Tunsil to give Jayden Daniels more support. The team also brought back many of the veterans who made the 2024 season successful. Tight end Zach Ertz is back after a solid season, and Bobby Wagner also signed a deal to return. There are still many quality free agents out there, and one NFL insider suggested the team target linebacker Matthew Judon.

Washington Commanders And Matthew Judon?

NFL.com writer Jeffrey Chadiha suggested that Matthew Judon would be a perfect fit for the Washington Commanders. Judon was on the Atlanta Falcons last season and only had 5.5 sacks, but Chadiha believes he still has plenty left in the tank.

“Washington general manager Adam Peters has been aggressive in each of the past two seasons when it comes to free agency. The one thing he still needs to find for this team is more help in pressuring opposing passers. The team leader in sacks from 2024, Dante Fowler Jr., returned to Dallas this offseason, and Peters didn’t take any edge rushers in the draft.”

“That leaves Judon as an intriguing option for a team that wants to make another power move in the NFC after reaching last year’s championship game. He has his flaws — he turns 33 in August and only amassed 5.5 sacks in his one season with the Falcons last year — but he also fits what Peters has been finding in free agency the last couple years. The Commanders received valuable contributions from older veterans like linebacker Bobby Wagner and tight end Zach Ertz in 2024. If Judon can give them a little boost in the pass rush, he would be just as beneficial to Washington’s hopes of reaching the Super Bowl.”

Head coach Dan Quinn and his staff were able to get contributions from many veterans. It seems like a perfect place for Judon to join. Given his age and the season he had last year, the Commanders could likely get him on a team-friendly deal.

Final Thoughts

Should the Washington Commanders sign him? At this point, the team should be doing everything they can to try and win now while they have a young quarterback on a rookie contract. If the staff can figure out how to get Judon to wind back the clock a couple of years, they could have a devastating pass rush on their hands in 2025.
