The Washington Commanders run in the NFL Playoffs has been extraordinary in a variety of ways. One of the most shocking trends has been Washington’s success on the road. With back-to-back road playoff wins, the Washington Commanders are the only team to win a road playoff game this postseason.
Washington is heading to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1992 after playing a masterful game on Saturday against the Detroit Lions. The offense put up a whopping 45 points and their defense forced five turnovers. That included forcing Lions Quarterback Jared Goff to commit four turnovers. Washington was a huge underdog coming into the game which made their resounding victory shocking. Will the Washington Commanders be able to win their third straight road game to book a trip to the Super Bowl?
Washington Commanders Continue Shocking the World
Washington is 60 minutes away from making another piece of NFL history. Only four playoff teams have won three road games in a single postseason. Those teams are the 1985 New England Patriots, 2005 Pittsburgh Steelers, 2007 New York Giants, and 2010 Green Bay Packers. The Commanders hope to be the fifth member of that list come Sunday.
Rookie Quarterback Jayden Daniels has been spectacular during Washington’s playoff run. He has four passing touchdowns and 567 passing yards during the NFL Playoffs. Most importantly, Daniels has yet to commit a turnover this postseason. He was tremendous during the regular season and has arguably raised his level in the postseason.
Final Thoughts
Washington will face another stiff test against the division rival Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. The teams split their season series as Sunday’s game should be another close contest. Daniels had the best game of his career against Philadelphia in Week 16 with five touchdowns. He will look to have similar success on Sunday.
Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts left the Week 16 game early following a concussion. That injury forced the quarterback to miss the final two regular season games. Even though Philadelphia has won their first two playoff games, Hurts has not played his best. He had one total touchdown in last night’s win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Even though Washington is a sizable underdog against the Eagles, they will not be fazed. The Commanders need another great road playoff game to continue making history and clinch a berth in Super Bowl LIX.
