Warriors Could Turn to Trade Market to Acquire Center After Al Horford Report

The Golden State Warriors have had an underwhelming offseason thus far as they have yet to make a move outside of the NBA draft.

Of course, the Warriors are still awaiting a decision by restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga and they have also been linked to multiple other players during free agency.

On name that continues to be linked to Golden State is Al Horford, though it appears they may have to look elsewhere to upgrade their center position after a report by ESPN’s Marc J. Spears.

“Golden State, obviously, expected him to sign last week. He didn’t,” Spears said. “The Los Angele Lakers, Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks, I believe, are also interested in a nearly 40-year-old guy who also has retirement on the table. He’s still considering retiring. He’s not in any hurry. He’s got a sixth kid coming on the way. He lives in Atlanta and Boston in the offseason. But I’m hearing that whether it’s Golden State, and to a lesser extent the Lakers, being away from the family that far isn’t going to be in that decision.”

With this report, it appears as though Horford is seriously considering retirement, which would force the Warriors to look to other options to upgrade their center position.

One player the Warriors could look at is Nikola Vucevic of the Chicago Bulls, a player they have been linked to over the past few seasons, and Nekias Duncan is surprised a trade has not already been made.

“I’ve just been waiting on Kuminga to Chicago,” Duncan said. “I’ve been waiting on (Vucevic) to Golden State for, it feels like, months.”

Of course, Kuminga may be on the move via a sign-and-trade this offseason and with the Bulls reportedly showing interest in him, a Kuminga for Vucevic swap could be on the table for the Warriors.

Despite this, Golden State does have other options to upgrade their center position but there is no doubt that they must do something if they want to be serious contenders next season.
