Vikings take explosive offensive weapon Kevin O'Connell will salivate over with a common link to Justin Jefferson

The Minnesota Vikings had to wait longer than every other National Football League franchise to make a selection on day two of the NFL Draft , and it was the last selection. They went with an offensive weapon, selecting Maryland WR Tai Felton at 102nd overall.

The Vikings acquired the 102nd overall pick in a trade with the Houston Texans, the fourth in as many years where they moved back five spots in round three to move up 45 spots on day three. The Vikings still are only set to pick four times overall, but the player is interesting.

Vikings select Maryland WR Tai Felton in NFL Draft

It's an interesting selection for the Vikings, as wide receiver isn't one of the players that you consider to be one that has a major need. However, only Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison are under contract after this season.

Our own Destin Adams at A to Z Sports had a solid breakdown on what Felton brings to the next level.

Tai Felton is coming off an uber productive season at Marylan,d where he set new career highs across the board with 1,124 yards, nine touchdowns, and 96 receptions. He has solid size for the position at 6-,0 which allows him the flexibility to play inside or on the outside at the NFL level. In my opinion,n he projects best as a Z WR and has traits that should help him get on the field early. If he can't crack the Vikings WR rotation as a rookie, he should get the chance to play on special teams. And with a WR like Justin Jefferson to watch and learn from, it feels like Felton landed in the perfect location.-Adams

He's not very big at just 180 lbs, but that hasn't been a deterrent for the Vikings, as Addison was 173 lbs when he was drafted and both he and Jefferson are slender players. If the player is good, the Vikings are not afraid of taking players who are smaller in stature.

The 4.3 speed is evident on tape and he has a track background. Once he gets the ball in his hands, he goes zoom. If head coach Kevin O'Connell can unlock him, this could be a steal for Adofo-Mensah.
