The Minnesota Vikings are currently tied for 15th in odds to win Super Bowl LX, which is somewhat insulting. It's especially bad when you look at ESPN's Power Rankings ahead of the 2025 season which place the Vikings 10th in the National Football League.
The Vikings' poor draft performance over the past few seasons has left them with few internal options as they evaluate a roster with nearly two dozen pending free agents. And with a projected four picks in the 2025 draft, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will dip heavily into the market to fill his roster. Some of the approach will depend on whether the Vikings spend the money to re-sign quarterback Sam Darnold or if they move forward with J.J. McCarthy. Regardless of their cap situation, the Vikings will need an influx of free agents. -- Kevin Seifert
Vikings rank 10th in ESPN 2025 NFL Power Rankings
When you take a look at how the Vikings are positioned in the initial power rankings, it's a relatively fair position, especially when you consider how much turnover the Vikings are set to have over the next few months.
The teams ahead of them are as follows:
- Kansas City Chiefs
- Buffalo Bills
- Detroit Lions
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Baltimore Ravens
- Washington Commanders
- Green Bay Packers
- Los Angeles Chargers
- Cincinnati Bengals
You could argue the Vikings should be as high as seventh on this list, especially since they dominated the Packers on two separate occasions. Even so, the Vikings being 10th is fair. Nobody truly knows what will happen at the quarterback position, nor do we know how good J.J. McCarthy can be in the NFL.
The first time we should take a major stock in how the NFL Power Rankings shape out is in May when we see how both free agency and the NFL Draft play out. Only then will we start to see how each team will look going into the regular season.
When those come out, the Vikings will likely be much higher.
