The Minnesota Vikings still need to find a quarterback to act as the primary backup for J.J. McCarthy during the 2025 NFL season. Unless Brett Rypien is that plan, the purple and gold will need to acquire a quarterback before the start of the season.
The Vikings have options. They could sign a remaining free agent like Ryan Tannehill, Aaron Rodgers, or Carson Wentz. The team could look to develop another young quarterback with McCarthy and draft a backup. Or Minnesota could trade for their QB2.
Could the Minnesota Vikings trade for Titans quarterback Will Levis?
Recently, A to Z Sports published an article by Easton Freeze that listed the best possible trade partners for Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis. The Minnesota Vikings were listed among those franchises as a "Strong Candidate."
"Everything about this landing spot makes sense besides 2025 available picks: the coach and scheme, their QB culture, their desire for more than what they currently have on the roster. It's a very good fit."

A trade for Will Levis would signal a few things. It would make the No. 33 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft a backup after only two seasons in the league, but it would also give the Vikings a backup with 21 games of starting experience who is only 25 years old.
The article also has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles listed as strong candidates, with the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, Las Vegas Raiders, and New Orleans Saints listed as possible landing spots.
Freeze also includes the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers as teams not to rule out. Considering the asking price for Levis, multiple teams could be interested.
Of course, trading Will Levis will depend on the Titans' use of their No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Currently, the expectation is that Tennessee will use that pick on Cam Ward to become their quarterback of the future.
Tennessee has a clear path to Ward if they are ready to move on from Levis and would likely ship him off for a small amount of compensation to clear the path for their rookie passer so there is no question about who the focus will be on.
For the Minnesota Vikings, giving up compensation in the 2025 NFL Draft isn't ideal with their lack of picks, but they could look to send a mid-round pick in the 2026 draft to secure the rights to Will Levis if they see him as a high-potential backup for J.J. McCarthy during the upcoming season.
