Barring any freak injury to the No. 1 pick from the 2024 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears know who their starting quarterback will be in Week 1 when they take the field against the Minnesota Vikings, as Caleb Williams is the cornerstone of the future at that position.
Who will be holding down the No. 2 spot behind Williams is an entirely different question, though, and has been one of the position battles under the microscope throughout the offseason thus far. With third-year QB Tyson Bagent and veteran QB Case Keenum battling it out, one player appears to have a leg up on the competition coming out of minicamp.

Bagent has been in Chicago for two seasons now and saw time in four games this past season, completing both of his two attempts for a total of 11 yards. For his career, he has completed 66.2% of his 145 pass attempts for a total of 860 yards, three touchdowns, and six interceptions. These aren't exactly numbers to write home about.
Keenum, on the other hand, is an 11-year veteran who was talked out of retirement by first-year Bears head coach Ben Johnson. While Johnson has maintained that there is no set depth chart behind Williams, it doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to see what the most likely outcome here will be. Johnson fully expects Keenum to win this job and be the primary backup for Williams.
There is good reason for this. Keenum has started 66 games over his NFL career, owning a record of 30-36. He has also completed 62.3% of his pass attempts for 15,175 passing yards, 79 touchdowns, and 51 interceptions. He has a track record that Begent cannot match, and, in a break in case of an emergency situation, it is understandable that Johnson would want someone with a bit more experience under his belt to take control of the huddle.
Anything is possible. However, it seems like it would be a massive surprise if Bagent beat
