“It’ll be until fall camp,” Lawson said in the interview. “I’ll definitely try to stay around as much as I can, obviously, but yeah, before I’m active, probably fall camp.”
Lawson, a Crimson Tide captain, finished second on the team with 76 tackles last season. He said during the interview that he had assumed 2024 would be his last year in Tuscaloosa, after passing up a chance to enter the NFL Draft following the 2023 season.
However, following the knee injury, he opted to stick around Alabama for one more season. Lawson said he made the choice partly due to not feeling accomplished with the Crimson Tide.
“I came to Alabama to win championships,” Lawson told Crimson Drive host Roger Hoover. “I think I won one championship in football, and it was like in peewee, I was probably 12 years old or something. So it’s just different at this level, and not winning in high school but getting so close. I just feel like it’s just not over yet.”
Lawson said he expects to begin working in Alabama’s anti-gravity treadmill in February. He’ll continue to play a major role for the UA defense in 2025, with fellow inside linebacker Jihaad Campbell off to the NFL.
Alabama has not yet announced dates for its spring football practices, or the A-Day spring game.
