On Monday night, TSN released their newest edition of NHL Power Rankings and the Vancouver Canucks have dropped off significantly.
The Vancouver Canucks have been up and down in in NHL Power Rankings from multiple media outlets throughout the 2024-25 season, but in the most recent one released by TSN on Monday, Rick Tocchet's group have taken a significant drop off when compared to where they were placed last time.
TSN's NHL Power Rankings see Vancouver Canucks drop off significantly
The last time TSN released a power rankings list was just before the 4 Nations Face-Off when Vancouver won six of eight games, placing them in 15th.
Upon their return from the 4 Nations Face-Off, the Vancouver Canucks embarked on a big five-game road trip and winning at least two or three of those would've gone a big way in their hopes of making it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
While they may be tied with the Calgary Flames for the final wild card spot in the Western Conference on Monday, the Vancouver Canucks 1-4-0 on their road trip, with the lone win coming last Wednesday in overtime against the Los Angeles Kings.
Because of their poor performance on the road trip, TSN has decided to drop the Vancouver Canucks 11 spots from 15th all the way down to 26th in their National Hockey League Power Rankings.
'Lastly, the Vancouver Canucks are down 11 spots, from 15th to 26th, on our list. The Canucks, tied with the Flames with 65 points, sit just outside of a playoff spot. Vancouver has one win in five games since returning from the break and, like the Flames, struggles to generate offence. The Canucks rank last in the NHL in slot shots and rush chances, 28th in expected goals and 26th in goals per game.
Our model does not believe Vancouver will be a playoff team come mid-April.' TSN said.
Seven of Vancouver's next eight games are at home, starting on Wednesday night when they host the Anaheim Ducks, who defeated the Canucks 5-2 last Thursday.
The Canucks will also face Minnesota (Mar. 7th), Dallas (Mar. 9th), Montreal (Mar. 11th), Chicago (Mar. 15th), Utah (Mar. 16th) and Winnipeg (Mar. 18th) at Rogers Arena, with their lone road game over the next two weeks coming on March 12th in Calgary against a Flames team they're battling with in the wild card race.
It's going to be a crucial couple of weeks for Rick Tocchet's group and if they have any hopes of making it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a second year in a row, they'll need their big players to step it up and for them to win at least five of their next eight games to stay in the hunt.
