The Vancouver Canucks need an infusion of high level talent this summer, and now, it appears as though they could be targeting a former Conn Smythe winner.
After a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, the Vancouver Canucks come into this off-season looking to make some major changes, and with the tenure of captain Quinn Hughes a major topic of discussion, they need to add some big time talent if they are to convince him to remain with the team long-term.
One top talent that could be available this summer is Jonathan Marchessault with the Nashville Predators, with Elliotte Friedman noting that if a deal makes sense for his family and sending him to a winning organization, a deal may be had.
'If it makes sense in terms of winning and family, not to throw things in the garbage.'
Now, Harman Dayal and Thomas Drance of The Athletic have noted that the Canucks are a team that could kick the tires on Marchessault.
Canucks Linked To Jonathan Marchessault
As the Canucks look to put elite level talent around not only Hughes, but the highly divisive Elias Pettersson as well Marchessault has become a key target.
'Overall, Marchessault has remained productive through his early 30s. He scored 42 goals in 2023-24 and won the Conn Smythe the year prior in 2023. The Canucks should consider kicking tires on him if the acquisition cost is discounted, though they'll need to avoid landing on the 15-team no-trade list he's contractually entitled to.'
According to reports, Marchessault can make a 15-team no-trade list if the reports of a potential trade are true, and unless the Canucks find themselves on that, they should be in hot pursuit of the former Conn Smythe winner, as he appears ready to remain productive at 34-years of age for quite some time to come.
