A former first round pick has been mentioned as a possible replacement for pending unrestricted free agent forward Brock Boeser this summer for the Vancouver Canucks.

It's going to be a difficult day for the Vancouver Canucks and their fans on Tuesday, July 1st, with the expectation that Brock Boeser will leave the club as an unrestricted free agent and find a new home for next season and beyond.

Losing a player like Brock Boeser is never easy, especially considering the production he brought to the team on a yearly basis, but Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford are going to work hard in the coming weeks to find a suitable replacement for their top-six forward group.

Former first round pick named as possible Brock Boeser replacement

There's no question it's going to be difficult to replace Brock Boeser, but some intriguing names have been mentioned in recent weeks that the team could target.

In a recent article on Canucks Army, Tyson Cole took a look at some potential options that Allvin and Rutherford could consider and among the players mentioned is 2012 first round pick Teuvo Teravainen, who currently plays for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Teravainen returned to Chicago on July 1st last year, the team that drafted him and he won a Stanley Cup with, after eight seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes and despite the Blackhawks having a difficult campaign, the Helsinki, Finland native still managed to produce.

In 82 games for the Blackhawks, the 30-year-old registered 58 points (15 goals, 43 assists), 12 penalty minutes and was a minus-23.

Cole believes that with the Chicago Blackhawks could look to add futures this summer, such as prospects and draft picks, which would align with their current core and that the Vancouver Canucks could be a trade partner, giving Teravainen an opportunity to return to a competitive team.

"Teravainen has an eight-team no-trade clause, but if the opportunity comes for him to leave a struggling team, he might want a chance to be with a more competitive team. And why wouldn't the Blackhawks take the opportunity to get younger if the return is young players/futures?" Cole said.

Along with finding a replacement for Brock Boeser, Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford are going to have their hands full this summer as they try to address other areas of need, such as the second line center position, as well as figuring out what to do with their goaltending situation.

For those reasons listed above, it should be an interesting offseason in Vancouver and with fans hoping the team's management group makes the right moves to get the Canucks back into the Stanley Cup Playoffs next April.
