Someone spilled the tea on how they felt about the Bears hiring Shane Waldron as their offensive coordinator. They remained anonymous but needed to express how much of a wrong move they thought it was. Oh, and one last thing, they weren't just anybody in the NFL; the anonymous player is a Pro Bowler.
As the news broke yesterday that the Bears decided to part ways with their offensive play-caller, Shane Waldron, co-ost of FS1's The Faculty Emmanuel Acho went back to a text he got from a well-known and accomplished player in the league stating to him that they "never understood that hire."
Acho read the text message conversation live on the air.
As the news continues to trickle out about the Bears firing Waldron, many believe that this was just a matter of time. Sunday's 19-3 loss to the New England Patriots probably made the decision a done deal.
It was a loss on Sunday that had cameras catching quarterback Caleb Williams looking annoyed with his offensive coordinator on the sidelines. Even after the game, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, another coach in the hot seat right now, stated that the team was going to be "looking into everything" to see if changes needed to be made.
Waldron's firing doesn't come as much of a shock due to how the team has been clicking lately. However, offensively, the Bears have occasionally shown life via their 2024 No.1 overall draft pick, taking snaps. Waldron was a hire who came in after working with Geno Smith with the Seattle Seahawks the last few seasons.
His work there helped re-energize Smith's career with the Seahawks. It's been a different story in Chicago.
The texts that Acho was reading on the air were from a month and a half ago, on September 26th, after the Bears lost miserably to the Indianapolis Colts. It's clear from what was said that the Pro Bowler was a Seahawk who was there when Waldron was coaching there.
"Man, they hated him in Seattle, and we collectively felt like we didn't have a good offensive coaching staff," Acho read to the viewers at home.
This isn't the only behind-the-scenes drama leaking out to the press from Chicago. As word got out via a tweet by Adam Schefter about Waldron's firing, Mark 'Silvy' Silverman of the Waddle and Silvy show on ESPN Radio piggybacked off of Schefter's post, saying that there are some veterans in the building who want a change at the quarterback position.
If the rumors are true, many Bears players want Williams benched, thus giving the starting job to 2023 undrafted quarterback Tyson Bagent.
Although the Bears QB2 has only taken six snaps this year during the regular season, he did go 2-2 in 2023 in relief of Justin Fields.
These are strange times for the Bears as they try to salvage what's left of their 2024 campaign in an unexpectedly highly competitive division.
