The Kansas City Chiefs’ championship ring was made with an error regarding the classification of one of the teams.
During the ceremony to hand over the adornment, which almost symbolises an individual “trophy” to each person in the organisation, a flaw was noticed in the engraving.
In fact, the Miami Dolphins, who finished sixth in the AFC, were engraved on the ring as the sixth-placed team in the conference.
The franchise spent a lot of money, around $40,000, on making all the accessories.
Travis Kelce didn’t give a damn about the mistake
So far, Travis Kelce is the only one who has spoken out about the error in the adornment. On his New Heights podcast, the tight end said he doesn’t care.
“I don’t give a f___,” he said without hesitation. “Just makes it more exclusive. We screwed up about something that means nothing.”
Even so, the most recent Super Bowl ring is not Kelce’s favourite.
“This one’s pretty damn cool,” noted. “It feels like a championship ring when you look at it. But I would probably say the one last year is my favorite one.”
Mike Florio doesn’t believe Kelce is being sincere
Mike Florio, on NFL on NBC, gave his honest opinion on what happened with the ornament and then reacted to Travis Kelce’s speech.
Firstly, he was sarcastic, saying that it’s the kind of mistake anyone would like to have, given that it’s a representation of victory in one of the world’s biggest sporting events: “The ultimate first world problem is there’s a typo on the inside of my Super Bowl ring.”
“We would all love to have that problem, we would trade places with Travis Kelce in an instant. Still, the whole thing is embarrassing for the chiefs.”
Then he became more serious about it being a mistake that couldn’t have gone unnoticed by those who were responsible for checking that everything was in order: “Whoever’s fingerprints were on that, it ultimately flows up to the owner, but before the owner looks at it, the owner approves everything with the ring, that’s the general approach. There are other people who have say in it and I would assume multiple sets of eyes look at it.”
Florio spoke his mind and found the error embarrassing.
“To have a mistake like that on a Super Bowl ring is possibly unprecedented and definitely embarrassing. It doesn’t change the fact that they won the Super Bowl but they screw the ring up.”
Regarding Travis’ speech, the host of the show took a swipe at the player.
“It is what it is and Travis Kelce says he doesn’t care. I wonder how much of that is him just trying to convince himself that he doesn’t care because if he could keep the seven with the incorrect seed or the six with the right seed, he’d surely take the six, unless he’s just being stubborn.”
