The Miami Dolphins are in danger of finishing the year worse off than the already lower-than-expected bar set in 2023. While Tyreek Hill’s team can still technically make the playoffs, their fate is out of their hands, even if they win every remaining game.

Josh Jacobs has thoughts on the team, as do many analysts. Some have pointed to Tua Tagovailoa’s injury early in the year, while others have pointed to the team’s struggle in cold-weather games.

Others have pointed to Tyreek Hill’s erosion. Hill has now addressed his struggles this season.

Tyreek Hill’s blame

According to a Miami Dolphins transcript via a December 23 Pro Football Talk article, Hill claimed that he had been given too many vet rest days, which has robbed him of the ability to practice with Tua Tagovailoa.

He said: “I need those valuable reps with Tua, Those vet rest days are starting to show. … Those Wednesday reps are definitely showing.

“As a leader, I’ve just got to be able to bite the bullet sometime and practice and get those valuable reps with QB1 because, if we’re able to stay on the field on third down, who knows what could happen.”

The article hints that Mike McDaniel was implicated by the comments, considering he controls the veteran rest day allotments.

He responded, claiming that adding some practice time for Hill was “an easy one” to fix. According to Pro Football Reference, Hill earned just three catches for 29 yards and a touchdown during his December 22 win against the San Francisco 49ers.

Tyreek Hill facing wide range of outcomes for 2024

The Dolphins receiver has a couple of different outcomes to how this season is remembered over the next two games. While all hope of him keeping pace with his previous two seasons is out the door, the wide receiver still has a chance to salvage a 1000-yard season.

Hill remains 166 yards shy of 1000 at 834 yards. If he can have one more performance similar to his 115-yard December 8 outing against the New York Jets and a decent day In Week 18, he has a solid shot. However, if he falls prey to an injury or gets rested for the future in Week 18 and has a nearly unproductive day in Week 17, he could finish with the fewest receiving yards of his career since his rookie season.

Will Tyreek Hill save his 1000-yard streak dating back to 2020, or slip below a bar he has held since 2017?
