The fastest man in the world vs. the fastest man in the NFL. Sports fans may remember Miami Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill claiming in August that he could defeat Team USA's Olympic champion Noah Lyles in a 100-meter dash.
Lyles won the gold medal in the event at the 2024 Paris Olympics and maintained his supremacy online in response to Hill.
After some public jabs, the two are officially going to face off in a race to settle the debate once and for all.
According to People's Natasha Dye, Hill and Lyles wills race some time in the spring or summer in a contest of a yet to be determined distance. The two did a joint interview with the publication about the event.
"This has been an ongoing thing for, quite some time now, and I mean, everybody's seen the back and forth on social media," Hill said. "I've been very adamant to show people what real, true speed looks like."
Lyles won the 60-meter gold medal on Feb. 6 at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix and held up a sign that read "Tyreek could never," a clear provocation toward the NFL speedster who has consistently clocked in at over 21 mph on his fastest plays.
"Everybody says that they're gonna be the world's fastest, but when it comes down to it, you gotta be the winner every time, each and every time, and every time I show up to the biggest moments, I win," Lyles told People.
"That's why I'm the world's fastest," Lyles continued. "I did at the Olympics. I do it at world championships. I do it wherever it's needed to be done. And if I gotta go down and, you know, beat up on Tyreek to prove that I'm the world's fastest, then it's gonna be done."
There will be no shortage of trash talk leading up to the event. Hill has already promised to "blow out" Lyles in whatever distance they settle on.
No location has been determined to host the event yet either.
