The Cleveland Cavaliers have a lot of personnel that they can throw at any opponent in their NBA Playoffs run. Tyler Herro and the Miami Heat just happened to be on the short end of the stick for their first-round matchup. This NBA All-Star was supposed to be the next playoff riser for Coach Erik Spoelstra's team. What happened?
It is safe to say that Coach Kenny Atkinson figured out how the Heat were using Tyler Herro. It showed in their NBA Playoffs Game 1 clash, and everything might continue to be that way if the Heat don't change up their schemes.
Herro got brutally honest about how the Cavs bothered his rhythm, via Anthony Chiang of The Miami Herald.
“They were calling me up, it’s obviously something we’ve seen before. I think what’s different is they call me up, and then it’s not a one-on-one attack. It’s get the switch and then call up the pick and roll with the five, and then I had to fight over screens. So that’s kind of wearing me down — expending energy on defense and then trying to break open on offense," he said.
The Cavs' guards hunted Herro down on every opportunity they could take. Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, and Ty Jerome all benefited from this as the three ended up scoring a total of 85 points.
On offense, Herro was also not himself. He only put up 21 points while knocking down only seven out of his 18 field goal attempts. There needs to be an adjustment on how Coach Erik Spoelstra's Heat use Herro in order for them to stand a chance against this historic Cavs squad in the NBA Playoffs.
