Quarterback Ty Simpson hasn’t been named the starter (yet) officially for Alabama football, but he still has a message he wanted Crimson Tide fans to hear.
“When I get on the field, Alabama fans should know I’m going to do everything it takes to win,” Simpson said in a video with QB reps that his dad posted to social media. “I’m going to make sure I’m the toughest guy on the field. I’m going to make sure I win. I’m going to make sure I know everything that’s coming. I’m going to get the guys around me the ball.”
Simpson is the leader in pole position to be the starting quarterback for Alabama in 2025, after Jalen Milroe left for the NFL. Simpson is also competing with Austin Mack and Keelon Russell to be the starter.
Simpson is heading into his fourth season with the program. The former five-star quarterback from Martin, Tennessee first sat behind Bryce Young in 2022. Then Simpson lost the competition to be the starting quarterback in 2023. Milroe has started the majority of the games the past two seasons.
Now Simpson has his best shot to start, and the coaching staff has said he would be the starter if the season started today. Whether that holds up through preseason practices remains to be seen, but Simpson has as good a shot as anyone to be the starter when Alabama faces Florida State on Aug. 30.
“I think my journey has been like no other to say the least,” Simpson said. “I came here with dreams and aspirations of going to the NFL and leaving a legacy. I feel like I can still do that.”
