'If you mess with one of us, you mess with all of us.' That's a phrase we've all used before, probably for varying reasons. Maybe you had to defend a younger family member. Perhaps you didn't want to, but that sibling talks too much, forcing you to have to engage in fisticuffs out of obligation. Maybe you're a member of the Baltimore Ravens, and you're reading this. You too understand the theory. If it isn't one thing, it's seemingly always another.
If they aren't disrespecting the offensive line, we are being forced to listen to another scathing attack on Lamar Jackson. Oh yeah... You guys have certainly started something.
Whether they state this publicly or not (and, honestly, they probably won't), there's an 'if you aren't with us, you're against us' sentiment building in the Ravens organization.
ESPN's recent offensive tackle ranking is void of any Ravens, though one earns an 'honorable mention'
ESPN's recent positional rankings have been excellent. Spearheaded by insider Jeremy Fowler, NFL executives, coaches, and scouts were polled before positional rankings of the game's best players were produced.
This time around, offensive tackles were the discussion. Here's Fowler's top ten. Raise those hands if you can identify what's missing.
-
Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
-
Penei Sewell, Detroit Lions
-
Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles
-
Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers
-
Jordan Mailata, Philadelphia Eagles
-
Rashawn Slater, Los Angeles Chargers
-
Laremy Tunsil, Washington Commanders
-
Dion Dawkins, Buffalo Bills
-
Christian Darrisaw, Minnesota Vikings
-
Andrew Thomas, New York Giants
If you correctly guessed that there are no Ravens on the list, give yourselves the gold star, although Ravens star Ronnie Stanley earned an honorable mention
"I thought he played better last year than the year before. (He) was more consistent." Those were the words of an unnamed NFL personnel evaluator. Our issue is another. His mention seems more 'dishonorable' than 'honorable'.
Stanley was a Pro Bowler last season. How is he not among the top ten players ranked? Where is Roger Rosengarten? Do we place him among the snubs as well? He didn't receive any votes according to the ranking.
Last season, the Baltimore Ravens led the NFL in rushing. Jackson finished 85 yards short of eclipsing 1,000 yards on the ground. Derrick Henry came just 79 yards shy of passing 2,000 yards rushing for the second time during his career. Jackson also threw for 4,172 yards and 41 TDs vs. only four interceptions while crafting a league-leading passer rating (119.6) and QBR (77.3).
We're going to assume the starting offensive tackles had a lot to do with that. Don't get us wrong. There are some studs on this list. You can argue among yourselves about who should fall out of the top ten, but a revised list is needed, and two Ravens need to be included. Then again, we could advise using this as some added fuel to spark this team towards what everyone hopes is a Super Bowl run.
