President Donald Trump will create a presidential commission to address ongoing issues in college athletics, according to a new report.
And former Alabama Coach Nick Saban could be involved in it.
Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that the commission will look into the transfer portal, payments to players, employment status, revenue sharing, Title IX, and larger money-making issues such as television contracts and conference alignments.
The commission is expected to include college sports stakeholders and businesspeople with deep connections to college football, according to Dellenger, who cited anonymous sources in government and sports.
The commission could be announced through a presidential executive order, and it is expected to include Saban, now an analyst with ESPN.
The Wall Street Journal reported last week that Trump is mulling over issuing an executive order to address college football’s NIL payments after a conversation with Saban in Tuscaloosa during the president’s visit to the campus of the University of Alabama.
Attorneys representing athletes in the announced NCAA legal settlement of Name, Image and Likeness rules are accusing former Alabama coach Nick Saban of “unneeded self-involvement” after his reported talks with President Donald Trump.
A pending $2.78 billion settlement with the NCAA, announced last year, resolves three antitrust lawsuits and would pay out damages to college athletes over a 10-year period.
