Trey Hendrickson Trade Idea Explores Washington Commanders vs. Cincinnati Bengals Edge

The Washington Commanders have a need at edge rusher and Trey Hendrickson is the perfect final piece to their Super Bowl roster.

All-Pro edge rusher Trey Hendrickson is fed up with the games played by his Cincinnati Bengals.

And that should excite franchises in need of edge rusher help like the Washington Commanders.

The top defender on the Bengals franchise has recorded 17 sacks in each of the last two seasons. He has pushed for a long-term extension that makes him one of the highest-paid defensive players in the game.

But after watching Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins get long-term extensions with Cincinnati, Hendrickson has been ignored with his own demands.

“No communication has taken place between my camp and the organization post draft," Hendrickson said to ESPN Monday. The offers prior to the draft did not reflect the vision we shared and were promised last offseason if I continued to play at a high level. Coaches are aware of these past conversations.

"Rather than using collaboration to get us to a point to bring me home to the team, THEY are no longer communicating. I have been eagerly awaiting a resolution of this situation, but that’s hard to do when there is no discussion and an evident lack of interest in reaching mutual goals.”

Washington is one of the few teams that fits what the Bengals could potentially want in a trade partner. They have the cap space to give Hendrickson a long-term deal, and own all of their first-round picks for the next few years.

It may take a package of picks to get to the negotiating table with Cincinnati; there were pre-Draft rumors of Cincy wanting a second-round pick as part of a deal. ... and maybe they are short of leverage here.

No deal is quite close just yet, but it's clear the Bengals and their top defensive player may be at an impasse moving forward.
