It won’t show up on his Hall of Fame bust or his Pro Football Reference page, but Tom Brady is still trying to find a win against the New York Giants in the playoffs.
The first-year color commentator tried his best on Sunday, sending a jab in the Giants’ direction.
In the NFC Championship Game, Philadelphia dismantled the Washington Commanders 55-23 to win the conference and set a date with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Running back Saquon Barkley, of course, was the star of the show. He ran for a 60-yard, go-ahead touchdown on his first play from scrimmage to continue his ludicrous postseason stretch.
That led the conversation to how New York let Barkley walk to its biggest rival and … Giants fans know the rest.
“Giants fans might have a tough time sleeping going forward,” Kevin Burkhardt began.
“Giant mistake letting him go,” Brady quipped.
The New York faithful called Brady out over his Barkley comment, particularly due to the pointed nature of poking fun at the Giants’ expense.
Fair or not – real or not – Brady seems to take advantage of opportunities to slight New York whenever possible. Perhaps it’s low-hanging fruit after a 3-14 season, maybe it’s some deep-rooted disliking of the team that provided two of his three Super Bowl losses.
This season, however, has been an extreme right-tail outcome for Barkley; and it wouldn’t have happened with the Giants, no matter how much money they paid him. He ran 15 times for 118 yards and three touchdowns to continue one of the most dominant stretches in recent memory.
In his last five games, Barkley has run for 150, 167, 119, 205, and 118 yards, respectively, while scoring seven touchdowns. A month prior, he ran for 255 yards on national television. He’s having a historic year and an unbelievable postseason.
Until he returns to being a mere mortal, the Giants are simply going to have to eat it.
