The Atlanta Falcons finished with an 8-9 record during the 2024 NFL season. They finished in second place in the NFC South and missed the playoffs once again.
Head coach Raheem Morris late in the season decided to bench quarterback Kirk Cousins for Michael Penix Jr. The Falcons will be looking to move off of Cousins this NFL offseason despite having three years left on his contract. Atlanta is looking to get back to the playoffs next season.
Latest PFF Mock Draft Has the Atlanta Falcons Drafting a Wide Receiver To Help Michael Penix Jr.
In the latest Pro Football Focus NFL Mock Draft, they have the Atlanta Falcons selecting wide receiver Luther Burden III from the Missouri Tigers with that selection. Atlanta has the 15th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Trevor Sikkema of Pro Football Focus said about the Falcons making this pick:
“The Falcons could address a defensive hole here, specifically the defensive line, but I believe they’d be tempted by one of the top receivers in an attempt to surround Michael Penix Jr. with weapons. Burden had a down year in 2024, but that was more due to Missouri’s overall offense than anything Burden did. He’s one of the class’ top talents and after-the-catch receivers.”
This past season with Missouri, Burden III caught 61 passes for 676 yards receiving and six touchdowns, along with averaging 11.1 yards per reception. He also rushed for 115 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns, along with averaging 12,8 yards per carry. Luther Burden III is also 5’11” and weighs 208 lbs.
The season before, he caught 86 passes for 1,212 yards receiving and nine touchdowns, along with averaging 14.1 yards per catch. Luther Burden III also rushed for 31 yards on seven carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 4.4 yards per rush.
Offensive Talent
Even with the offensive talent they have already with Bijan Robinson, Tyler Allegier, Kyle Pitts, and Drake London, the Atlanta Falcons might decide and draft another wide receiver to help Michael Penix Jr. anyway. There is no doubt that they need help on the defensive side of the football and they could do that in trades, free agency, or later in the draft.
