Hunter Renfrow is back on the market and at this stage of free agency might be one of the top players available overnight.
Hunter Renfrow didn’t have the biggest spotlight on him when he joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019. The wide receiver was drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, but became a cult favorite on the team.
Now, six years later, in the shadow of the 2025 NFL Draft, the former Las Vegas Raiders is reportedly attempting to come out of retirement. Taking to Twitter/X on March 28, NFL insider Ian Rapoport announced the wide receiver’s decision that could potentially lead to him catching passes from the Raiders’ new quarterback.
“Comeback? Former Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow, who did not play football last year but is still just 29-years-old, is visiting his old team the Raiders today, per me and Tom Pelissero. The SC-native also visited the Panthers Wednesday and could do more. He plans to play in 2025,” Rapoport posted.
The key phrase is that the wide receiver “could do more.” As such, there is plenty of reason to believe Renfrow suddenly could be the biggest name on the market. The wide receiver has faced Patrick Mahomes many times, caught passes from Derek Carr many more times, and is still under the age of 30.
While this isn’t the first time Renfrow has been speculated about in his career, there are plenty of more practical options suddenly on the table this time around. Here’s a look at three places the wide receiver could go if the Panthers and Raiders fall through.

#1 – Los Angeles Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers have mostly the same pass-catching offense entering April as they had in February. After a quiet offseason thus far, there is pressure to make some noise in the NFL Draft.
However, Hunter Renfrow falling out of the sky with an interest in working the West Coast time zone is a streak of luck for the Chargers. They need to capitalize.
#2 – New England Patriots
The New England Patriots have signed Stefon Diggs, but their wide receiver room was hurting to a degree that Diggs alone might not be enough. Adding Renfrow and a rookie receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft would instantly take the team’s wide receiver weakness and turn it into a strength.
The Patriots aim to reach the playoffs this season, and as they’ve accrued some playoff experience already, they could use another player who has been to the January dance. Renfrow has reached Week 19 before and might not shirk from the moment the same as other players.
#3 – Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen got a fancy new contract, but didn’t get a big new receiver in the free agency blitz. Adding Hunter Renfrow would be a respectable consolation prize. It would at least show the MVP that the front office is trying to set him up to succeed instead of kicking their feet up to let him do the dirty work.
Renfrow has experience against the Chiefs as a former member of the Raiders, so the move would help prepare the team for the next inevitable battle against Patrick Mahomes. Renfrow logged 1038 yards and nine touchdowns in 2021, so there’s a chance he could have a similar output this season with Allen.
