‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers suggest that Y&R may be about to kill off a character who’s been on and off the soap canvas for decades.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Cole Returns From Touring Newman Publishing Divisions
Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) has been MIA since shortly after the holidays. He wasn’t even around for his daughter, Claire Newman (Hayley Erin), when she gave her psycho aunt, Jordan Howard (Colleen Zenk), a poisoned cup of tea and killed her.
On April 24th, Cole returned from touring the Newman Publishing divisions from all over the globe. Cole presented Claire and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) with gifts from his time in Serbia.
He gave Claire three tickets to Montmartre so that she could visit with Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell). Cole brought back a special love key for Victoria.
The key came with a strange and ominous story about a couple in Serbia. The man and woman were separated when he died in World War I, and the woman passed away shortly after from a broken heart.
The ladies in the village put golden love locks on the bridge where they first met. Cole added their names to one, and the key was for the lock. The story foreshadows trouble on the horizon for Cole and Victoria.
Afterward, Cole joins his daughter and Victoria Newman for a leisurely family lunch at Society. Claire informs her parents that she and Kyle Abbott are moving in together.
The couple supports their daughter and agrees that she is an adult who can make her own decisions, despite Grandpa Victor Newman’s (Eric Braden) constant meddling and insisting to Claire, Victoria, Cole, and anyone who will listen that Kyle is wrong for her.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Cole And Victoria’s Chemistry Isn’t Exactly Off The Charts
During their conversation about all this, Cole started coughing out of nowhere. On soaps, characters don’t just start hacking for no reason. Even though Cole tried to explain his sudden coughing as allergies and something he picked up on his travels, it’s a sure sign that the character’s days are numbered.
There is a good chance Cole has some mysterious illness that, in all likelihood, will kill him. The main reason we feel the soap is headed in this tragic direction is that Victoria and Cole don’t have off-the-charts chemistry. The pair is actually relatively bland as a couple. Cole’s death also gives Claire a reason to spiral out of control.
Claire hasn’t had a relationship with her birth father for all that long, and if he dies, she may revert to her dark side. This could be the catalyst for the end of her romance with Kyle.
It’s not hard to imagine Cole being diagnosed with and eventually succumbing to a terminal illness. It would undoubtedly give Hayley Erin and Amelia Heinle some meaty, potentially Emmy-worthy material to play. Sadly, it also means Claire won’t have much more time to spend with her father.
Victoria’s love story with Cole appears to be coming to a close. It looks like Y&R is setting up Cole’s death, which unfortunately means heartbreak for Victoria and their daughter.
