‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Lanier Thanked Her Fans
The actress took to social media earlier today to announce her exit. In a tweet, Lanier plainly stated, “Hey guys!! This Friday, May 2nd, will be my last episode on Y&R.”
She went on to say,
“I’ve loved the journey and learned so much, but it’s time for me to grow in a different direction. Very grateful for all the Y&R fans who have supported me. “
Since it’s May sweeps, it’s easy to speculate that Summer’s exit could be very dramatic. It’s hard to imagine they would actually kill off Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and Nick Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) daughter, a legacy character on the show, but daytime drama can sometimes be unpredictable, and it could go that route.
Then again, she may want to get away from her memories of Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) now that he’s with Claire Newman (Hayley Erin), and the couple plans to move in together.
Summer has admitted she’s still in love with Kyle and wants to be a family again with him and Harrison Abbott (Redding Munsell).
However, since Kyle and Claire are blissfully happy together, it doesn’t seem as though Summer and Kyle are getting back together.
Another option, albeit a typical soap trope, is to put Summer in a coma and have her wake up when another actress assumes the role.
Lanier joined the Y&R Canvas three years ago. She took over the role from Hunter King. When Lanier first came on the show. Summer and Kyle were still together.
The former couple were married offscreen in Italy. Summer has had an illustrious career and developed her own company called Marchetti.
‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: If Summer Dies, Phyllis Will Be Inconsolable
However, both Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) and Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) are leaving the fashion house to work with their respective significant others.
Summer may decide to make a fresh start somewhere else. Or, the character could continue, and we’ll soon hear,
“The role of Summer is now being played by….”
However, as of now, there are no plans to reassign the role. Phyllis is bound to take her exit hard, considering everything she’s been through lately.
Not to mention that Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) just fired her from Abbott Communications. She’s been so focused on trying to get her son, Daniel Romalotti (Michael Graziadei), to work with her at Billy’s new start-up that she neglected her job.
If the sudser decides to kill off Summer, Phyllis will be a wreck, perhaps even inconsolable, and it could take a serious toll on her mental health. Her daughter’s death would be the last straw.
Hopefully, they don’t go that route. Since Summer has been struggling with jealousy over Kyle and Claire’s romance, and Marchetti is about to implode, it’s more believable that she would decide to leave Genoa City. She may return to Italy, where she had a successful career.
Fans who were hoping for a reunion between Summer and Kyle will obviously be disappointed. We wish Allison Lanier all the best in her future endeavors!
