Reality-TV fans first fell in love with Kate Chastain’s dry-wit confessionals as the chief stew on Below Deck, but the Bravo star’s skills were even better utilized when Peacock enlisted her for two seasons of The Traitors. Now that she’s a veteran of the show, she’s got some thoughts on how Vanderpump Rules’ biggest villain, Tom Sandoval, will fare on the deceit-fueled strategy series during Season 3.
Chastain shared her advice for Sandoval (yes, of “Scandoval” fame) with us at Peacock’s recent The Traitors Castle Garden event at The Grove in Los Angeles. She cut right to the chase with some blunt words of wisdom. “Yeah, I would just say in this game and probably generally in life, he should just, whatever he feels the need to do, do the opposite,” she said. “That whole season of Vanderpump Rules? Do the opposite of what you feel like you want to do. Try it out.”
Sandoval isn’t known for making the best decisions after blowing up his life by cheating on his girlfriend of a decade, Ariana Madix, with her friend, Rachel “Raquel” Leviss, but that doesn’t mean Chastain wants him voted out of the castle quickly. “I don’t want him to go first. I want to see him outside the safety of his Vanderpump/West Hollywood bubble. He doesn’t have his bars and cover band to hide behind,” she joked. Sandoval might find it hard to live down his “Worm With a Mustache” moniker on The Traitors, but she admitted to us that he’s “great TV.”

That’s why Chastain believes he will make it “pretty far” in the season. “I’m sure he’ll wear amazing outfits. You know, he likes a theme and I have a feeling, if I was a betting woman, I think he’ll make it about halfway because I think he’ll be useful to the Traitors,” she noted. “People will be pointing fingers at him.” Could Sandoval handle being a Faithful in the game after his recent scandal? The irony is not lost on us.
Since Chastain showed up midway through the second season, and has not ruled out a return to the third season, (we have to wait and see on that), who else would she love to see haunting the castle? “I mean, it’d be no surprise to see [Married to Medicine star] Phaedra [Parks] in Scotland again, because she’s just such a charmer and so funny, and who doesn’t want to be around her?” she gushed. “I imagine they might give [The Challenge‘s] Johnny Bananas [Devenanzio] another shot one day. Poor guy. He was out so fast. He didn’t even know what hit him. He deserves another go at it.”
We also had to casually namedrop a Below Deck name during our conversation because we had just interviewed current Below Deck Mediterranean cast member Aesha Scott, who told us under no circumstances would she ever do The Traitors. “I understand that it’s a lot of manipulation and game-playing and all of that,” Scott explained. “There’s no way in hell. Scott [her fiancé] always tells me I’m the worst liar.”
Chastain revealed that she was “surprised” to hear her pal’s response to doing the show. “She’s got a very strong social game, but I would like to see her be a Traitor,” she suggested. “It’d be hilarious. I need to call Aesha and maybe convince her. I think she’d do great. I think she would be popular in the castle.”
We might have just cast our first contestant for Season 4 if Chastain has her way.
