After starting 3-0, the Seattle Seahawks are now 3-3. They have a major crossroads ahead of them in determining what to do at their quarterback position because it’s clear Geno Smith is holding them back. They could go with Sam Howell to finish out the season, but they also need to acquire first round picks to ensure they get a young quarterback under center for the future. How they do so is by maneuvering at the trade deadline and trade DK Metcalf.
It’s clear with the poor play from a quarterback like Smith, that Metcalf is getting frustrated as shown by weekly acts of looking disgruntled on the sideline. Metcalf is a talented receiver who has accumulated 6,204 yards, averaging 14.6 yards per reception, and 50 touchdowns over 426 receptions. Metcalf is able to use his size to box out defenders at the catch point, and despite being a bigger receiver, is able to gain separation easily. With the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba and still having Tyler Lockett, plus Jake Bobo, it would make moving on from Metcalf a bit easier.
The team to initiate this trade has to be the Buffalo Bills. While this would take multiple first and second round picks, plus maybe a player like a Von Miller, it’s one that Buffalo needs to do. Despite having Josh Allen at quarterback, who is great at uplifting the talent around him, he can only do so much when the wide receivers are struggling to gain separation.
Keon Coleman has struggled to gain separation, along with Khalil Shakir as well, and instead they’re relying on the two to gain yards after the catch. For those two to develop fully, the Bills need to get a true top-tier receiver to take pressure off them, while also keeping the offense stable with beating that extra attention. Metcalf with his size and athleticism would be the ideal target for Allen, and this offense and playing with Allen would be ideal for Metcalf.
