With the 2024 NFL season right around the corner, it’s time to start looking at players that could be traded. With that, Mac Jones is a trade candidate, and if he is, it will be to the Seattle Seahawks.

Jones was just traded from the New England Patriots to the Jacksonville Jaguars this past offseason in March. Jones was a top first round draft pick in 2021 to the New England Patriots, and while he showed flashes as a rookie, things stalled out after. That mainly has to do with the Patriots offensive system not being set to maximize the skills of Jones. This has been reflected since Jones joined the Jaguars.

Over the preseason, Jones completed 73.1% of his passes for 421 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions. Jones still has the qualities of a starting quarterback in the NFL, which is exactly why the Seahawks need to trade for him.

Geno Smith is the current starting quarterback for Seattle, but missed time in training camp with injury and is going to be turning 34. With a new head coach in Mike Macdonald and offensive coordinator in Ryan Grubb, the Seahawks need to get younger at the position. Jones will be turning 26, and is the ideal fit for the scheme.

With Grubb coming from the Washington Huskies, he is used to a more pocket passing quarterback in Michael Penix Jr, who he helped turn into a top NFL Draft prospect. Penix over two seasons under Grubb threw for 9,544 yards and 67 touchdowns with 19 interceptions. That type of production would be similar to what Grubb could get out of Jones, especially with a better offensive line and better weapons in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Kenneth Walker.

Mac Jones on the Seahawks would turn out to be the best option for them to get younger on offense without having to secure a top draft pick. This would also present Jones the opportunity to become the franchise quarterback.
