The New York Jets selected seven players in the NFL draft last week, with all seven picks coming in the first five rounds. The Jets went with offensive players with their first two picks, and then mainly focused on the defensive side of the ball.
But while most experts believed the Jets were going to be in the market for a quarterback in the draft, when the final pick was made, New York did not select a player at the position. But that doesn’t mean they didn’t add a QB.
The New York Jets signed 23-year-old Brady Cook as UDFA out of Missouri an added him to the QB room.
After the unexpected retirement of second-year QB Jordan Travis, and the injury histories of both Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor, the Jets third string QB is not a position to take lightly. And Cook might just be the type of quarterback the Jets are looking for with how they are building their offense.
The Jets are going to be looking to run the ball and control the clock. While they have Breece Hall, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, they will also look to get chunks of yards from the QB position. Cook ran a 4.59 in the 40-yard dash and posted the second-highest athleticism score among quarterbacks at the 2025 NFL Combine.
In college, Cook completed 62.4% of his passes last season with a 70.9% adjusted completion rate, throwing for 2,535 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. He also added 375 rushing yards and five scores on the ground, showcasing dual-threat ability. He has solid arm talent as a passer, and he knows when to deliver with zip or when the ball needs touch.
A three-star recruit, he grew up dreaming of playing at Missouri, which ended up being his lone FBS offer. Cook originally committed to Barry Odom and ultimately was part of Eli Drinkwitz’s first recruiting class for the Tigers. A three-year captain, he became the starter as a sophomore and went 26-12 over 38 career starts.
Considering the success Cook had in college, he finished his last two years with 20-5 record in the SEC, and his athletic ability, the Jets might have found themselves a viable option at the quarterback position if needed.
