The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos is flaunting her diamond engagement ring and talking about her fairytale romance, but there's always the chance that she's chasing clout. Fame is a potent elixir - few can resist its intoxicating power. There are those who don't enjoy the spotlight, but based on Joan's recent social media activity, she loves being in the limelight. She's gotten used to being a VIP, and maybe she's too consumed with getting adoration from fans and the media. If so, her desire to remain famous may seem even more important to her than her relationship with Chock.
Joan appeared on The Golden Bachelor season 1, where she was rejected by Gerry Turner, who went on to break Theresa Nist's heart. His marriage with Theresa ended within months, and audiences were probably crestfallen when the relationship fell apart. They were likely looking for a real happy ending. Now, Joan's trying to restore the integrity of the franchise by sharing her joy with the world. However, it has to be said that Gerry and Theresa used to do the very same thing. They were seemingly elated, but soon enough, it was all over.
In terms of how she judges reality dating series contestants, Joan has changed her tune. Instead of looking down on Bachelor Nation duos for their quick engagements, she's bragging about her own. Joan got engaged during the series' exciting finale, and now, she's ready to show the world that rushing into things can be a good thing. While she had doubts sometimes during the process, and was hurt by a suitor, Pascal Ibgui, Joan has fully recovered. She's not looking back, but maybe her engagement and the attention it's getting is going to her head. The post caption reads:
A longtime #BachelorNation fan, Joan Vassos sometimes judged couples for getting engaged so quickly. But after going through the process herself on #TheGoldenBachelorette , she tells Us Weekly she’s “really confident” that she and Chock Chapple will go the distance. For new insight into how Joan overcame her red flag fears, when Chock knew he had Joan’s heart and why they won’t wed anytime soon, read our cover story interview — featuring pics from their first-ever joint photo shoot! — at the link in bio.(📸: @johnchapple )
As seen in the quote, Joan feels "confident" about her future with Chock - again, Theresa used to feel the same. It's possible that Joan's mimicking Pascal by acting overconfident. While the cameras rolled, she was living in a sort of dream world. Yes, the interactions were real, but under a slick veneer of glitzy Hollywood glamour, potential red flags may not be as noticeable as they are off-screen.
In other words, Joan may be in for a rude awakening.
Problems that fans have spotted, such as Chock's controlling ways, are things that Joan doesn't appear to care about right now, but maybe she will later. The more red flags she ignores, the more serious the situation may look to outsiders. Aside from the control issues, which are severe, there is the issue of Chock's nine-year engagement with his late fiancée.
A very romantic narrative has been pushed on the public by Joan and Chock, but the facts don't really support the idea that Chock's the ultimate suitor. He didn't marry his last partner, and she sadly passed away. When she died, she was a fiancée, not a wife. The reasons he made that decision are unclear, and he might not have made that choice on his own. However, there's always the chance that his late partner, Kathy White-Goree, wanted a wedding and didn't get one.
Joan's bragging could backfire. It's easy to go from a fan favorite to the butt of jokes. Gerry knows this all too well, and Theresa's been dragged through the mud too. If Joan continues to let the world know how perfect her life is, making her engagement sound like the most fulfilling experience ever, she may end up with egg on her face. Instead of playing the happy fiancée, she'll be a woman with a bad breakup to recover from, and she may have to work hard to stay relevant, just as Gerry is doing.
Honesty's the best policy. Joan should share her happiness if it's real. If it's not as genuine as she pretends it is, she should tone it down, as she's bound to run into problems with Chock later on. The Golden Bachelorette star has every right to happiness, but by doing so many interviews and adding so many Instagram posts, she may come off like a clout chaser. She appears to crave attention every day and night. Fame is fun, but there can be a real downside, and Joan may need to learn that painful lesson. Hopefully, she will have a happy ending.
Fans can watch The Golden Bachelorette season 1 on Amazon Prime, YouTube and AppleTV.
