The Golden Bachelor star Gerry Turner is once again coming under fire for an Instagram post after his divorce from Theresa Nist, this time for a Father's Day message. Gerry, a 72-year-old retired restaurateur from Hudson, Indiana, and Theresa, a 70-year-old financial services professional from Shrewsbury, New Jersey, got married on January 4, 2024, in a live, televised event called the Golden Wedding. However, just three months later, they announced that they were getting a divorce because neither of them wanted to leave their family, so they couldn't decide where to live. Their Golden Bachelor divorce has now been finalized.
"Change your name from goldengerryturner to losergerryturner."
In an Instagram post, Gerry shared details about how he spent Father's Day. Gerry's caption read, "Another great Father's Day. The best daughters a dad could ask for, the best dad a son could ever have, and the best golf buddies on earth. Thanks to all who made this a wonderful Father's Day."Some fans slammed Gerry in the comments section, including one who wrote, "Such a narcissistic caption… per usual… everything 'grand' wasn't it????" and another who said, "Change your name from goldengerryturner to losergerryturner." However, many fans defended Gerry, insisting that it's time to give him a break.
Gerry Turner’s Father Never Appeared On The Golden Bachelor
Everett Turner Was Unable To Attend The Golden Wedding
Gerry's post included three photographs, including one of his two daughters, Angie and Jenny, one of him and his 92-year-old dad, Everett, and one from the golf outing. Everett never appeared on The Golden Bachelor, and he didn't attend the Golden Wedding because he was unable to travel due to his health. However, Gerry sent a small replica of his and Theresa's wedding cake to Everett's home, so that he could participate in the wedding. Everett also shared that he had Golden Bachelor watch parties during every episode.
It would've been very interesting to see the dynamic between Gerry and Everett during The Golden Bachelor. While the show made a big deal out of the hometown and final dates being different from the traditional Bachelor and Bachelorette shows because Gerry and the contestants were meeting each other's children and grandchildren rather than their parents, it neglected to mention that Gerry actually still has his father in his life. It would've been intriguing to see Everett's reaction to the process of the show, since he's from an underrepresented generation in the Bachelor franchise.
It's a shame that fans are still slamming Gerry every chance that they get after The Golden Bachelor. It seems that no matter what he does, he can't change his image in some fans' eyes. However, it's nice to see that some fans are defending him. People have to remember that The Golden Bachelor is a TV show, and the real-life Gerry could never live up to the expectations that arose when the producers created the character of Gerry Turner for the show. If Theresa can move on from their divorce, then fans should too. Gerry deserves a second chance.
