This week on The Bold and the Beautiful, Daphne tells Steffy that she’s saying au revoir to L.A. We can’t say as we blame her, either.
The character was introduced as the temptress that no man could resist — and yet, resist her, Carter has. She’s stolen a kiss here or there, but he hasn’t gotten as lightheaded from her proximity as everyone else has from inhaling her perfumes too deeply. He just stubbornly insists that Hope, Hope, Hope is the one for him. Love shouldn’t be such hard work, Daphne has suggested. But apparently, when you’re as muscle-bound as Carter, you’re not put off by the idea of heavy lifting.
If Daphne were to really leave L.A., it would be a shame, because she was introduced with so much potential. Her confidence even started to rub off on her portrayer, Murielle Hilaire. She wasn’t one of the show’s standard-issue marriage-minded female characters. She was haughty, naughty and thought of sex as a fun hobby, not some sacred act. But she almost instantly fell for Carter and ditched her attitude. What that left her with, storylinewise, was just throwing herself at Carter every chance she got. (It felt like Brooke and/or Taylor with Ridge all over again.)
There remains hope that Daphne will stick around; spoilers for the week have Zende, Electra and Will pitching her on a new idea. But if Daphne does stay — fingers crossed — the writing for her will sharpen, allowing her to remember that she is a catch, not a desperate woman who would waste her time on a guy who is too blind to see how exciting his life would be if he gave it a French twist.
