The Bachelorette Season 21’s Heartbreaking End Proved Jenn Tran Was Never The Priority (The Show Doesn’t Care About Its Leads)

The Bachelorette season 21’s finale was one of the most heartbreaking Bachelor Nation finales of all time and, unfortunately, proved that the show has never cared about or prioritized Jenn Tran as the lead. Throughout The Bachelorette season 21, Jenn’s story was consistently overlooked as the narrative delved into the guys of her season and how desperately they didn’t want to be part of it. Jenn’s season was meant to be a milestone for the lead, as she was the first Asian-American Bachelorette and was meant to have a phenomenal love story to bring to the long-running The Bachelor franchise.

The Bachelorette Season 21's Heartbreaking End Proved Jenn Tran Was Never The Priority (The Show Doesn't Care About Its Leads)

As The Bachelorette season 21 continued, Jenn’s story became less about her and more about the guys looking to win her heart. In dealing with her cast of suitors, Jenn had to develop a diplomatic approach to interacting with the guys on her season. Making it clear that she was doing her best to give everyone a fair chance to get to know her, Jenn’s role as The Bachelorette shifted to getting to know her connections to ensuring each contestant got their fair share of time with her. Now, after a tough end, Jenn’s journey proves she wasn’t the priority.

The Bachelorette Has Treated Jenn Poorly All Season

The Show Hasn’t Taken Care Of Jenn

Although Jenn’s season of The Bachelorette has been reported on in many different ways, each account of the season shares similar sentiments about how Jenn has been treated. As The Bachelorette, Jenn was supposed to be the main focus of the season, uplifted and supported through her journey. While things may have started with the lead supported by the production behind the series, as time went on the season became less about Jenn and more about her guys, even in moments specifically geared toward Jenn.

Treating Jenn poorly throughout, The Bachelorette season 21 didn’t take care of her at all. The series instead focused on the storylines of her suitors, who turned out to be villainous in some circumstances, and simply uninteresting in others. While the show was supposed to show Jenn falling in love and in control of her own story, it was clear thorughout the season that Jenn was a background character in her own love story.

Jenn’s Heartbreak Was Used As A Spectacle

They Forced Her To Rewatch Her Proposal

During The Bachelorette: After The Final Rose, it was revealed that Jenn and her final choice, Devin Strader, had broken up after just a few weeks together. While Jenn and Devin’s relationship had been a focal point of the season, the producers hadn’t shown the pair getting engaged, instead opting for Jenn and Devin to reveal and discuss their breakup on stage. After the rehash finished, The Bachelorette producers showed the proposal to the live audience, keeping a camera on Jenn to show how hard she was crying. Jenn’s heartbreak was treated as a spectacle rather than a genuine difficulty.

Bachelorette Producers Need To Re-Evaluate Their Priorities

They’re More Invested In Spectacle Than Genuine Story

After putting Jenn through the wringer during her season of The Bachelorette and making it clear that her emotions and experiences weren’t a priority, Bachelor producers need to re-evaluate their priorities before moving forward. The majority of Bachelor Nation felt strongly that forcing Jenn to watch her proposal from Devin live on stage with a camera trained on her to catch her breaking down wasn’t the right response from the producers. Heartless and inexcusable, the producers behind The Bachelorette need to decide if they plan to lead with emotion or if they’re focusing on manipulating their cast members moving forward.
