The Bachelor Season 29: I'm Struggling To Understand Why Grant Ellis Sent Alexe Godin Home (They Seemed Like The Perfect Match)

The Bachelor season 29 star Grant Ellis said goodbye to Alexe Godin right before his hometown dates, and I'm struggling to understand his decision because they seemed like the perfect match. Grant and Alexe had a very strong connection which began on premiere night when he gave her his first impression rose. She'd brought a live llama named Linda to the Bachelor Mansion, which she called her "no-drama llama." After a conversation and a kiss, Grant gave her his first impression rose, and, because of a new twist, this meant that she also automatically received the first one-on-one date of the season.

During The Bachelor season 29 episode 2, Grant and Alexe went on their one-on-one date, which took place at the Beverly Center, which they had all to themselves. They had a lot of fun exploring the mall together. At one point, Grant and Alexe sat at a piano, and he played and sang a song for her that he made up on the spot. They also bonded about how they didn't have traditional families while they were growing up. After that, Grant and Alexe continued to connect on group dates, and they seemed to be headed in the right direction. I was really shocked when he sent her home because they seemed so perfect for each other.

Grant & Alexe Bonded About Their Childhoods

During Grant and Alexe's one-on-one date, Grant opened up about how his dad's experience with addiction molded him because it took a toll on his family. He told her that he wanted to do things better because he saw what happens when two people don't put the same effort into a relationship.

Alexe told him that she didn't have a traditional family while growing up because she was raised by her grandparents. She didn't see her father for 17 years of her life, and she's estranged from her mother. She said that she didn't feel heard, seen, or supported by her mother. However, Alexe shared that this was the reason that she went into speech therapy. She wanted to support children the way that she wished she'd been supported while growing up.

Grant told Alexe that, lucky for her, one day, she'd have another shot at having a family and raising kids, and she'd get to do it her way. In her confessional, Alexe shared that Grant made her feel like he heard and understood her.

When I saw how quickly Grant and Alexe were able to open up to each other, I thought that she might be The One. While it's rare that a first impression rose winner ever makes it to the end of The Bachelor, (only Hannah Ann Sluss from Peter Weber's season has ever done it), I thought that maybe Alexe could break that curse. They seemed to have so much in common, and they were comfortable enough with each other to really open up. However, I was shocked to see that I was wrong when Grant sent Alexe home before his hometown dates.

Grant Told Alexe That He Could See A Future With Her

Alexe Called Her One-On-One Date With Grant The Best Of Her Entire Life

During their one-on-one date, Alexe said in her confessional that it made her feel much better that Grant didn't have the "picture-perfect life," and that they could bond over that and share that experience. Grant shared in his confessional that he loved that Alexe opened up to him, and that she wanted to leave old patterns behind and start anew. He thought that they had a great bond. As Grant gave her the date rose, he told her that he could see a future with her. Alexe then gushed in her confessional that her date with Grant was the best of her entire life.

When Grant told Alexe that he could see a future with her, I was reminded of The Bachelor season 16 star Clare Crawley's instant connection with Dale Moss. Grant just seemed so smitten with Alexe that I felt as though he should just end the season right then, and leave with her. I knew it seemed fast for him to be saying that he could see a future with her, but I wanted to believe that it might be love at first sight.

However, Grant must not have felt as strongly about Alexe as he initially thought that he did because their relationship didn't last. I suppose that, after Grant spent time with the other women, he realized that he had stronger connections with them.

Grant & Alexe's Strong Connection Began To Fade

They Still Seemed To Be Building Something Special

After Grant and Alexe shared such a deep connection so quickly on premiere night and during their one-on-one date, I was shocked to see that it began to fade after that. They had some fun at the week 3 prom, during which they shared superlatives with each other, such as who had the best smile (they each chose each other). Alexe also impressed Grant when, during week 4, she rode a mechanical bull in Madrid for a long time by coming up with her own unique strategy. Unfortunately, this caused Alexe to get a concussion, which made her have to leave the group date early, so she lost time with Grant.

During The Bachelor season 29 week 5, in Scotland, Alexe told Grant that she was having a difficult week because she really liked him, but he had connections with the other women too. However, she told him that she was glad that she felt emotional because it meant that she really did feel something for him. I thought for sure that Grant was going to at least meet Alexe's family to see if they were truly compatible, but he decided to give his hometown dates to Juliana Pasquarosa, Litia Garr, Zoe McGrady, and Dina Lupancu instead.

I was truly floored when Grant didn't call Alexe's name at the rose ceremony before his hometown dates. Zoe hadn't even had a one-on-one date, so it didn't seem as though he would choose her. In addition, Juliana and Dina had been involved with drama with Carolina Sofia, but Alexe had stayed true to her no-drama llama, and had been completely focused on Grant. I really thought that they were perfect for each other, but, hopefully, Grant made the right decisions about his hometown dates, and Alexe will find love on Bachelor in Paradise season 10 or as the next star of The Bachelorette.
