The Atlanta Falcons Will Trade Kirk Cousins to the New York Giants

Kirk Cousins was below average in his debut for the Atlanta Falcons. Coming off a torn Achilles midway through last year’s season, Cousins looked like he was 50 years old moving in the pocket on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It will take time for Cousins to get 100% healthy as it wasn’t a shock to anyone who watched the game that he had not recovered from his injury. With that being said, if Cousins continues to struggle throughout the first couple of games of this season, we could see a change in the Atlanta quarterback room.

The Atlanta Falcons signed Kirk Cousins to a four-year, $180-million contract earlier this year while Cousins was still recovering from his injury.  The hope originally for Cousins was to be the starter for at least the four years he was signed; however, there was some controversy as the Falcons selected a quarterback from Washington, Michael Penix Jr., with the eighth pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. This is very strange in my opinion because I don’t understand why they would waste money on Cousins if Penix could start in one or two seasons. This is why it is perfect that the Giants can come in and trade for little to get an “injured” Kirk Cousins.

Unfortunately, the Daniel Jones days in New York are just about up. After an abysmal performance this week against the Vikings, I am sure New York fans have given up on him. The Giants might have to just bite the bullet and cut Daniel Jones after this season because they won’t get much of a trade offer. This opens up more cap space to sign Kirk Cousins and make the Giants contenders again.

The Giant’s defense didn’t look awful in their season opener, only giving up 21 points (Daniel Jones threw an embarrassing pick-six). If the offense didn’t have that bad quarterback play, who knows what they could have been capable of in week 1. A guy like Kirk Cousin would be greeted with open arms in New York, someone who can lead the Giants back to the Super Bowl.  Before his injury last season, Kirk Cousins was on pace for over 5000 yards and 36 touchdowns. Guys like Jalin Hyatt and Malik Nabers would thrive with a guy like Kirk throwing them the ball. Don’t be surprised if both of these receivers would have 1000-yard seasons with Cousins in the backfield.

It goes without question that a 100% healthy Kirk Cousins is considerably better than Daniel Jones and will be able to do wonderful things for the Giant faithful. With a young and very underrated line, Kirk Cousins will be able to get the ball to his playmakers and do great things. Since Cousins doesn’t have much time left if this happens they would cut Daniel Jones, presumably, the haul for this trade wouldn’t be crazy. I could see a couple of picks being thrown out there, but in the long run, this trade would bring a new savior to the Giants organization.
