He will be entering his fourth NFL season with the Giants. New York already picked up his fifth-year option. With New York picking up his fifth-year option, will general manager Joe Schoen decide to sign him to a contract extension in the future?

CBS sports writer Tyler Sullivan listed one candidate from each NFL team who should be given a contract extension. Sullivan thinks that Thibodeaux should be given a contract extension. He said,

“Thibodeaux is under contract through the 2026 season, with the Giants previously picking up his fifth-year option. At some point, the 24-year-old should command a big contract, but there is a twinge of a question as to whether or not it’ll be New York that gives it to him. Thibodeaux has an 11.5-sack season on his résumé and was productive last season despite being limited to 12 games in 2024. However, the Giants did trade for and sign Brian Burns last offseason and used the No. 3 overall pick on Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter this spring. Do they triple down with Thibodeaux? There is a case to be made to do so, especially if he returns to form and is healthy throughout 2025. “

During the 2024 NFL season, Thibodeaux missed some games because of injury. He recorded 28 tackles, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and two pass deflections. New York might have the chance to be one of the best defensive line units the entire NFL. Carter, Dexter Lawrence, Darius Alexander, Burns, and Thibodeaux has a chance to create havoc during the 2025 NFL season.

The former Ducks player needs to show more consistency during the 2025 season. If he stays on the field and produces, then Schoen may need to give him a contract extension after the 2025 season despite picking up his fifth-year option. Thibodeaux also has 21 career sacks in three NFL seasons.
