Houston's star wide receiver got a harrowing practice update after he suffered a worrying injury
The Houston Texans managed to pick up a 23-20 victory in Week 8 over the Indianapolis Colts, but they may have suffered another blow to their wide receiver corps, as Stefon Diggs left the game early with a knee injury.
Diggs appeared to suffer a non-contact injury to his right knee, and while he was able to walk off the field under his own power, the non-contact nature of this injury has left open the possibility that he suffered a torn ACL, which would end his season prematurely.
To this point, the Texans have not released a concrete update on Diggs' injury status. However, they did release their estimated practice report for Monday, and the star receiver was listed as not having participated, which isn't a good sign for his potential availability in the team's upcoming Thursday Night Football contest in Week 9.
Houston has a short week ahead of their Thursday night contest in Week 9, so this announcement on Diggs does not bode well for his chances of taking the field in this contest.
Considering how Nico Collins is already on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, losing Diggs for any amount of time would be crushing, as he's stepped up to be the team's top wide receiver in Collins' absence, hauling in 47 passes for 496 yards and three touchdowns so far this season.
Diggs still has a couple days to get himself ready for this contest, but things aren't trending in the right direction right now. If he can't go, Tank Dell would be the team's top option at wide receiver, with tight end Dalton Schultz also appearing likely to be in line for a bigger role in the passing game.
It will be worth keeping an eye on Diggs' status to see what his actual injury is, but it's looking likely Houston will have to plan on being without him for their Week 9 contest against the New York Jets.
