Following Houston’s 23-20 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, Texans Coach DeMeco Ryans addressed the media regarding the win, among other topics. With his team now sitting at 4-1 on the season, he pointed out the positives of this week’s game and commented on their upcoming opponent, the New England Patriots (1-4).
The Texans are Riding a Wave of Momentum
Team Starts Season Atop the AFC South
Ryans addressed his team’s narrow victory. The Texans won in the closing seconds off a 59-yard field goal by Ka’imi Fairbairn.
“These are the type of games you find out who you are as a team,” Ryans said. “Buffalo is an outstanding team. Nothing but respect for them. It doesn’t matter how you get it done. I’m proud of our guys for gutting it out. It wasn’t all pretty (but) it’s about how you finish.”
Ryans also stated that they won’t take any win for granted and that his squad needs to stay hungry as the NFL season nears its midway point. And he’s certainly not looking past the Patriots this week.
“I mentioned to our guys today at the team meeting, that we’re going to have a long trip (to New England)” Ryans elaborated later. “So, I want you guys to have your minds right, right now… You guys got to be locked in; you have to bring some energy. You got to be ready to go.”
Next Up: New England
The Patriots are in a rebuilding mode in 2024, after the off-season departure of legendary Coach Bill Belichick, they are now under the leadership of Jerod Mayo. After their slow start, there has been some speculation that they may turn the keys to their offense to highly-touted rookie Drake Maye, most observers believe the Texans will face incumbent starter Jacoby Brissett.
“Jacoby is out there trying to do what we’ve asked him to do from the start,” Mayo stated following his team’s loss. “He’s taking some big hits, and his toughness continues to show up. Execution from the entire offense has to be better going forward.”
Perhaps the biggest challenge for the Texans will be playing at Foxboro Stadium.
Houston suffered their only loss of the year on the road.
